Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a life-threatening collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident happened on the third lap when track officials were seen on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to replace his compromised front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I came out on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two dudes running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, truthfully, it was extremely hazardous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be allowed to just dash across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some kind of clarification, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was informed that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the governing body

"On lap three, track officials were notified and put on alert to access the circuit and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy marshals were withdrawn and a caution signal was shown in that area"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired subsequent to that time"
