Wonder Man Trailer Reveals Marvel's Most Meta Series To Date

The Marvel studio is aware that viewers might be feeling some superhero fatigue, so they've decided to incorporate this exact idea into their upcoming superhero show.

That's right, the first preview for Wonder Man has arrived, and it promises a meta twist on the MCU.

The preview, which debuted on Oct. 10, also subtly moved the Wonder Man launch date back from its original late 2025 slot into January 2026.

Why one more superhero movie? Everyone is tired of superheroes. Why watch them in the theater? Wonder Man spoke to me on a deep level. There is an opportunity to surprise audiences. To reinvent the whole category of narrative.

The interviewer responds: "Have you considered about casting?"

The trailer then cuts to series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the interview on his phone, and the trailer ends.

Key Details Regarding Wonder Man

We already knew that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series features Abdul-Mateen II as the character Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who becomes a superhero (the hero Wonder Man).

The rest of the cast includes actor Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's manager Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as DODC agent P. Cleary.

The Studio's Self-Referential Comedy Strategy

We have limited information about the plot of Wonder Man, but it's clear that the studio intends to laugh at its own tropes.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears like the studio is fully committed on self-referential comedy. Will that work without the star power of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? We'll have to wait and see.
